Wedding Dog of the month: Pig

Welcome to the best thing to hit the internet since Daniel Craig dancing for Belvedere Vodka.

We love dogs – plain and simple. And we noticed early on that there was a clear link between couples that loved their dogs, and the kind of people we wanted to work with.

We have had the pleasure of meeting some pretty rad pups at some pretty fantastic weddings, and it seemed a shame that they didn’t get their own time to shine – until now.

Introducing: Wedding Dog of the month

Cute from day one: Pig as a Puppy

Disclaimer. Brace your hearts because Pig is no longer with us, he lived to the amazing age of 17 and got to be the dog of honour at his mom’s wedding just months before he said goodbye. I remember thinking that he knew he could leave her after that, because she was safe in Geoff’s love. *and now my eyes are leaking

Pig and his mum Lauren are the epitome of true love and lifetime loyalty. I first spied this absolute King when Lauren got in touch to book her wedding  - he was wearing her London Marathon vest – Lauren’s charity was Blue Cross for animals – of course :)

At the time pig was 15 and we were already fretting that the champ wouldn’t make it to her wedding at Deer Park. Then lockdown happened, and by the time Lauren and Geoff got to celebrate their incredible wedding at Deer Park Pig was an amazing 17 years old.

What a gent. He sat quietly by as the girls got ready in the morning, had a special moment with mum while she got him ready in his custom wedding outfit, and was whisked off to the ceremony in a special golf cart.

When they got married Pig stood for the whole ceremony, it was like he knew this was the moment he had held on for and wanted to honour it.
What a dignified boy.

My heart was so heavy when Lauren got in touch to let me know her beautiful boy had left us a few weeks later.

I know how loved he was and in that bond I saw Lauren’s capacity to love fiercely and unconditionally – an amazing quality to take into a marriage.

So, it seemed only fitting that the very first KCM dog of the month should go to the wonderful Pig.

Name: Pig (because I had a curly, pig-like tail)

Breed: Mongrel – the best kind!

Age I lived to: 17 years, 7 months.

How did I meet my owners:

My Mum spent a few years living in Thailand as a travel writer. She was adopted by a street dog who gave her 9 puppies! She found fabulous homes for 7 of my brothers and sisters but couldn’t bear to part with me or my brother, ‘Nobs.’ I outlived Nobs by a few years. I’ve always loved having the last word so it was destined to be that way.

When my Mum moved back home to England she brought us both with her and after six very expensive months of quarantine, we were all together again.

My favourite food:

Pork pies!! It was a tradition that I always had a pork pie with a candle in it on my birthday. In my final year I became super fussy, and super expensive! I refused to eat dog food anymore, but at my age my Mum figured I could have whatever I wanted, as long as I ate. Other than pork pies, I loved sausages and lamb mince the most, and every now-and-then I decided I would only eat jumbone bites and chewy lamb strips.

My favourite part of my parents love story is:

How I taught my Dad that dogs are the absolute best thing in the world. He had never had a dog until me, and while the midnight licking of my bits was annoying in the early days, he quickly grew to love me as much as my Mum did.

When my parents got married I wore:

The best Dog-of-honour outfit in the world! I had a peacock blue/green coloured collar and lead with my name engraved on a gold buckle, to match the bridesmaids in their peacock colour dresses and gold accessories. I also had a navy ‘dog of honour’ bandana attached to my collar, to match my Dad’s suit. My Mum found it all on Etsy.

I was a good boy, but if I had to bite someone it would be: eg Boris Johnson, the best man

Biting is for other dogs. I show how I feel in far more imaginative ways. After the ceremony one of Mum’s best friends came to help pick me up and put me back in the golf cart but I wasn’t quite ready for it and I peed on him. He’s a professional dog trainer and is as mad about dogs as my Mum is, so he found it quite funny. He’s probably the only person I could have got away with that with.

What I thought about the staff at Deer Park, would I recommend them to other dogs:

They were wonderful to me! They knew I had special needs as an old man and arranged for me to have my own private golf cart to take me to the ceremony. To keep me warm they fetched me an extra blanket too, and they made sure there was a water bowl at the top of the aisle ready for me. I didn’t need that as there was a sudden, massive downpour when the vows started. I thought that was kind of funny.

My favourite part of the wedding was:

Everyone looking at me being the handsomest boy in the world as I was carried down the aisle… and the lamb canapes and cheese that people kept sneaking me.

Did you think Kat got your best side on the day?

All of my sides are my best side as I was simply the best dog in the world. Kat got all of my sides perfectly and my photos have pride of place at home, so that I can be remembered forever.

Goodbye Pig

Pig would have been 18 years old on March 12, 2023. A life well lived and filled with so much love!
